This initiative was born out of a desire to see more trans stories told by the people who lived them. It's a huge undertaking to think deeply about your own gender, and it can often be helpful to learn from others' experiences. It is the goal of this project to make it easier for people of all ages questioning their gender to learn about themselves, find community, and access legal, medical, and social resources.
The first leg of this project was very kindly funded by HumanitiesDC's Oral History Project grant. To learn more about this program, please visit their website.
Cooper Joslin (they/them) is the creator of this project. They're a web developer and mixed media artist with a background in journalism. Cooper is nonbinary and an activist for LGBTQ+ rights. In addition to organizing the The Trans Guide, they also run Packers for Pals, a program in which they crochet and ship packers for transmasculine people around the country, at no charge to the recipient. Originally from Florida, Cooper now lives in Northeast Washington, D.C. with their wife, two cats, and puppy.
